Obituary of Barry Douglas Williams

Barry Douglas Williams March 25 1943 – July 23 2015 Barry Williams was born March 25, 1943 to Thomas Nathaniel Williams and Grace Ellen Williams (Morstadt) at Jamaica Hospital in New York City. He was a 1960 graduate of Martin Van Buren High School, where he met the love of his life Betty May Jeanes. The couple have been married and in love for 54 years, and have lived in East Northport for most of this time. Barry is survived by his wife of 54 years Betty May Williams, his brother Kenneth Charles Williams, the family of the late Thomas E. Williams, and his daughter Darlene Pallay and son-in-law Joseph Pallay, and sons Brian Williams, Kevin Williams (a Lieutenant with Suffolk County PD) and Sherry Brown, Chris Williams and daughter-in-law Tracy Williams. He was a loving and doting grandfather to Georgianna, Alexandra, Spencer, Tyler, Travis, Brianna, Christopher Jr, Madeline, Rosie, Gabriela, Joseph IV, William, Cassandra, and Grace who all benefited from his patient and loving guidance. They were all the delight of his life. In 1964, Barry began his career with the New York City Police Department, during which time he earned a bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Through his 26 years on the job in New York City, he ascended the ranks from patrolman, through Sergeant and retired as a Lieutenant. Most of these years were spent serving the city in Manhattan’s Midtown South Precinct. As a delegate to the NYC Sergeant’s Benevolent Association, Barry was admired and loved for his genuine connection with the rank and file officers and for his detailed knowledge of the workings of the Police Department. In 1990, he retired from the Police Department and continued his service to the city working for Fisher Brothers. He later worked for Huntington Coach as a school bus-driver for various districts in the Huntington area. Barry served the local community as a Scoutmaster of Cub Scout Pack 5 East Northport, as Umpire Commissioner with Larkfield Little League and a football coach with Huntington Boys Club. In his later years, he and Betty traveled through the UK, the Caribbean, Alaska and Mexico. Barry died after a short battle with mantle cell lymphoma while in treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital. At the time of his peaceful death, he was surrounded by loving family and close friends in Hospice House in East Northport.
