Obituary of Harold F. McNeill

Harold F. McNeill, Oct. 21, 1920 - June 11, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Florence M. McNeill (Wendy). Loving uncle of many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. Mac, as he was known to all, was born in Floral Park, lived for some years in NYC, but for most of his life resided in Centerport, NY. During WWII he served as a demolitions expert in Company C, a Combat Engineer Battalion, clearing jungles for airfields and roads in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. Mac graduated from Pratt Institute in 1947, with a degree in commercial art. He married Wendy, his wife of 68 years on January 7, 1948. He owned a commercial art business on 34th St. and the Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan, NYC. In their retirement, Mac and Wendy travel extensively. Their close knit group of friends celebrated every New Years Eve together and enjoyed lobster cook-outs on Asharoken Beach. Mac is fondly remembered by his extended family as being a kind, supportive and generous man. He had a kind word for everyone and had an innate appreciation of form and beauty. Reposing at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, Viewing: Thursday 9-11 AM. Service at the funeral home: 11 AM, Rev. Roy Grubbs, Presiding. Interment to follow, with U.S. Army Military Honors, at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for Medical Research, 1 Bungtown Rd. Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724, would be appreciated.
