Dottie was born in Bridgeport, CT to Dorothy and Michael Enright. She was the oldest of three children and is survived by her youngest sister Nancy and her sister-in-law Martha. Being the oldest of three Dottie learned to care for others at a young age. Not only did Dottie help raise her siblings, but after school she would work for her mom at the family dry cleaners where she learned to be an expert seamstress. Dottie utilized this skill in creating anything from her prom gowns, to furniture slip covers and curtains.

Dottie met her loving husband Robert Hayhurst at the age of 18, not much later the two were wed. The couple went on to start their family and purchase their first home on Circle Drive in East Northport. It was truly a forever home for them and their four children, Linda, Bobby, David and Dawn. She was also a loving babysitter to multiple generations of children throughout the years.

For decades Dottie worked tirelessly for her church, The Union United Methodist Church of East Northport. Her talents within the church were vast; she was in charge of many committees. No job was too big or too small for her whether it was washing walls or laying dry wall, spackling and painting, acquiring toys for the nursey or procuring volunteers to man it. Not only was Dottie very involved in her church but she was also a strong presence in the Al- Anon Community, where she made lifelong friends who supported each other through the ups and downs in their lives.

Dorothy loved being an integral part of her eight grandchildren’s lives; Heather, Aryn, Meghan, Hayley, Kristina, David, Matthew, and Michael. There were countless sleepovers, family dinners, barbeques, Birthday celebrations, trips and memories made along the way. She was an amazing cook and loved hosting family gatherings. Additionally, she enjoyed “girl time” with her daughters and granddaughter’s for mani / pedi’s and an occasional glass of wine.

Her parting has been a deep and heartfelt loss to all who knew and loved her. We hope our parents are enjoying their “Happily Ever After” in the final chapter of their Book of Life, entitled: The Last Hurrah. In lieu of flower, Donations would be appreciated to VNS Hospice, 5505 Main St., Northport, NY 11768 in her memory.
