After struggling with several types of cancer, James Richard McLean Sr, 63 of Norwich, NY, is at rest. He was known for always lending a helping hand. His generosity was only surpassed by his carpentry skills. James was one of 7 kids of Mary and George McLean (both have passed) He leaves behind Wife Nancy of 45 years, son James and daughters Kerry and Kristina, son in law Steven, as well as three grandchildren who will miss him terribly. He also leaves behind sister Sue and brothers George, Charles, Pat, David, Tony and Patrick. Some will remember Jim for winning the OCC Spider bike in 2007, something he rode with pride and often displayed on bike night at Gilligan's in Sherburne, NY. Many friends and families houses are adorned with woodwork from Jim, from dressers, to blanket chest, toy boxes and curio cabinets, Jim would create masterpieces from wood. With a gruff exterior, Jim had a heart of gold. He grew up on Long Island, working many years for King Kullen, before retiring to Norwich, NY with wife Nancy in 2003. He enjoyed hunting and has a trophy head on his wall of his house. Jims other passion was gardening. Expanding from a small garden to several beds of vegetables. His garden was plentiful and he always shared what was grown with family and friends. He shared this passion most with daughter Kerry. Jim worked on cars and had a love of Mustangs. Something he shared with Son James. Project cars ran in the family. His creativity rubbed off on daughter Kristina, and he helped her figure out carpentry skills and how to finish her own projects. We would like to thank the Cancer Center at Bassett of Cooperstown for taking such great care of Jim, as well has Hospice of Chenango County for making his remaining days as comfortable as possible.
