Ann Veronica Gilvary peacefully entered Heaven’s gates on 8/14/2018. The daughter of the late Ann and Robert Short, Ann was born on 7/26/1949 in Manhattan, NY, raised in Jamaica Queens, NY and attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Dominican Commercial High School and Nancy Taylor Business Institute.
In 1972, Ann married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Gilvary and began making memories that will last for eternity. Ann and Ken started a family in Jamaica Queens, NY and were blessed with their eldest son, Kenneth. They settled into their first house in Baldwin, NY and welcomed a second son, Keith. A few short years later the family moved to Clinton, NJ where they completed their family with Maryann and Michael. In 2001, Ann and Ken moved to Tampa, FL. Ann was a devoted loving mother, who always gave of her time and heart. Ann was a very warm caring and selfless person with boundless energy and a strong sense of duty. She worked tirelessly to create a safe, secure, and healthy environment for her family. She gave unwavering support to her family and raised them in a home full of love. Ann was a gifted piano player and was able to share her talent and passion for music through her impromptu performances. Ann truly enjoyed sharing adventurous vacations with the family as well as surprising the kids with spontaneous day trips. In the same spirit, Ann and Ken traveled the world together visiting exotic and distant destinations.
Ann always put her family and friends before herself and wanted nothing but the best for anyone who was fortunate enough to have met her.
Ann was very proud of her family and was excited to become a "Grammie" to her six grandchildren, Gabriel, Jessica, Olivia, Evan, Macie and Ryan. She had a passion for staying in touch with every family member, no matter how distant. Ann had a special bond with her brother Alexander Short. Ann will be missed by her sweet puppy “Sir Elvis Hunka Burning Love” and countless loving relatives and close friends. Ann loved holidays and festive gatherings and went to great lengths to bring people together even famously celebrating Thanksgiving on Friday and Christmas in the middle of December, so more family and friends would be able to attend without negotiating holiday schedules. Any chance to spend time with her family and friends was critically important to Ann.
Ann was an outstanding wife, mother, “Grammie”, relative, friend, mentor and role model to so many. Ann loved unconditionally. Ann will be deeply missed.
