Obituary of Anne-Rosel Johnson

Anne-Rosel Johnson (aged 86), of Miller Place, New York (later, in her last three years, of St Johnland Nursing Home in Kings Park), took her last breath on Thursday, February 28th at 5:18 pm, after a long struggle with dementia.

Anne was born May 13th, 1932 in Weimar, Germany to Alfred Stedtler and Maria Magdalena Stedtler (maiden name, Schroeter). Anne was raised in Germany (in Perleberg, Strausberg and West Berlin), then emigrated to the United States in the 1950's to work as a secretary, first for a Christian organization, then for the Juilliard School of Music in New York. There she met her future husband, Arthur Edward Johnson, who left this world in 1984. Anne and her husband were both musicians, and passed on their gift to their descendants. Anne leaves behind two children and their families:

•Anne's daughter Andrea Johnson (a music teacher living in Germany), Andrea's German husband Frank Dreger and Andrea's son Lev, aged 23 (a bassoonist).

•Anne's son Alan, a neuroradiologist living in Fort Salonga (who plays cello and listens passionately to music), Alan's wife Debbie and their two girls, Emily, aged 17 (who sings and plays trumpet) and Kiera, aged 15 (who plays violin, flute and piano).

Anne, the oldest of six children, also leaves behind four living siblings (Heinrich Stedtler, Elke Bauer, Margret Thoma and Fridolin Stedtler) and joins her brother Gundolf Stedtler in heaven.

Anne played piano, and especially enjoyed playing Schubert, Bach and Chopin. She taught piano privately for years, and, so, touched the lives of many young people. Anne loved small children and animals, and was incredibly gentle with them. She was also a passionate gardener and lover of all things beautiful, particularly when the beauty was of the "natural" sort.

Visiting hours Monday 2-5 & 7-9 PM with a prayer service at 8:30 PM with Rev. Robert R. Schoepflin, officiating. Funeral Service Tuesday 10 AM at the Abiding Presence Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Cutchogue Cemetery, Cutchogue, NY.
