My family and I had know John for many many years- He was always a humorous gentleman. I laugh just thinking about the serious look in his face when he made a joke! He had a great sense of fun and adventure and his beautiful family completed the picture of love and life. Blessings to all his family- You are all a treasure.

Very sad to see this. John was one of my closest elementary school friends. I spent much time during my younger years in his home with his family and on their boat, "The Bilbonjon". He is a big part of of my fondest memories. He will remain there forever.

As part of our Notre Dame family, we are saddened to hear of his passing this life. John was someone who welcomed our families and set an example of kindness, giving and inclusion. I will always remember his gentle leadership and loyal friendship as we circled the grills in stadium parking lots across the country. We will miss you. Go Irish

I am shocked and saddened by John’s passing, he was a nice guy. I have fond memories of Canterbury Ales and Abel Conklin’s, 2 great places he ran. Also going to school in Northport, great little town with wonderful friends. You will be missed. Please have those drinks and dinner ready for us when we all join you one day. To all your family and friends, I’m so sorry for your loss.

I am shocked and dismayed at this news. John and I had been friends since the 8th grade. I know Allison from before they were married. An immense practical joker, John was always looking for ways to pull a stunt. He introduced me to a fellow Colgate alum and the rest is history. I will always love him for that chance meeting- again- I thought he was joking when he said "I know that guy from my Political Science class at Colgate".
My heart goes out to his family- he was so proud of them. May God bless Allison and the family. May he Rest in Peace!

I am so sorry to hear that my best friend during high school has passed unexpectedly. I just saw him a year ago at his home on James Street. The Byers family was a second home to me during middle school and high school, if I was not living at home I was living with John and his family at 110 Stanton Street, his mom and dad were always great to me growing up as a kid. We lost contact after high school as he went away to College and I entered the service. We just recently in the past few years re-connected. I had hoped to see him this year in Florida where we live now. John will always be remembered by me as a great friend, we had many a good time as kids, the memories I have are great. I do not have contact information for Allison, Bonnie, and family, but please feel free to contact me. John RIP my friend and I'll see you on the other side. Chris
