Maureen Eckl

1938 – 2020

Maureen Makos Eckl, 81, passed away on April 1, 2020 in Gastonia, NC. Maureen was born in Flushing, NY on May 3, 1938 to the late Harry and Mary Catherine Makos.

Maureen and her family moved from Flushing to Northport, NY, a town always dear to her heart, and later she moved to Charlotte, NC. She was active through St. Gabriel Church with The Ancient Order of Hibernian Ladies Society – a Catholic, Irish - American Fraternal Organization and a Charlotte chapter of The Red Hat Society. A lifetime lover of reading and books, libraries were her heaven on earth.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her former husband, Joseph Eckl and their son, Christopher Eckl.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughter Genevieve Granson (Michael) of Belmont, NC; son David Eckl (Jill) of Ashburn, VA; daughter-in-law Sheri Eckl of Louisville, KY and her beloved grandchildren Brendan, James and Kevin Granson; Meagan, Katherine and John Eckl; Joseph and David Eckl. Maureen is also survived by her sister Constance Aquino (Ted) of Flushing, NY and brother James Brendan Makos (Susan) of Cincinnati, OH as well as nephews Terence, Daniel and Gerald Aquino and their families.

Due to the current health crisis, a private graveside service will be held at Northport Rural Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Church at a later date.
