I'm Kelly Harris. I was the house mom at Fiji when Brandon was a sophomore and lived in the house. What a nice person! He was the house manager for the frat so he and I had the opportunity to chat occasionally. I am so very sorry for your loss. I just heard about this today. Continuing prayers up for your entire family.

To Close Friends and Family of Brandon,
We met each other on our first day of college. I, Chapin, was his roommate, and I, Chris, moved in six feet across the hall. It did not become long before we tackled that year of college together as a trio, filling the year with jokes, laughter, long and deep conversations, club football games, pickup basketball, fishing, nature walks, and hiking, to name a few highlights. We will always remember his laugh and smile, which we witnessed more often than not, his deep intellect and curiosity, his ability to tell a good story, and most importantly, his care and love for others, especially his family.
This is the story of when we figured out Brandon REALLY loved Billy Joel. One day, while returning from a hike with two other girl friends, Brandon requested Vienna to be played on aux. There he was, eyes closed and volume on max, belting out every word of the song, in front of these girls who we were still getting to know. Not before long, the car was filled with a bunch of college kids singing Billy Joel loud enough for Mr. Joel himself to hear us from New York. Next up, aghast that we had never heard of it but excited to be the one to introduce us, he queued up The Ballad of Billy the Kid, and promptly hit the air piano harder than anyone had ever hit it before. Every time we hear that song, we think of Brandon’s singing, turning to a shout at the line, “From a town, known as Oyster Bay, Long Island”, as he had a lot of love stored in his roots. It was then and there that for us, Brandon’s name turned to “Billy”. A photo of the three of us sitting on boulders at the top of the hike before the epic car ride is attached.
This is the story of us kicking some butt in club sports. Our first year, Brandon and Chapin had both got cut from walking onto varsity sports teams, and for the first time in our lives we were without a sport and seriously needed to fill that massive void. That’s where club sports came in. Soon after gathering Chris and our 6 foot 4 RA Austin, we formed club football and basketball teams, and absolutely tore it up. Brandon was crazy athletic--the star of the team. On the court, he would out-work everyone. Fast break? Nope, Brandon would run you down. Not getting back on defense? Well Brandon was streaking the wing for his signature pump fake layup. The man must have set the record for steals in a game. Beyond basketball, he was a king on the flag-football field. Brandon was the best quarterback, wide receiver, safety, and cornerback on our team, which happened to be all the positions. We lit up the football field, practically executing whatever play we wanted. He was easily the shiftiest one, and put on a show of how a real man jukes. We look back on these memories very fondly. A photo of our flag-football team is attached.
This is the story of us doing what we love most. One summer, Chapin planned to visit Chris in Idaho to do some fly-fishing. The visit was somewhat informal and spread over a week, and no sooner than we told Brandon of the plan had he already booked his tickets. We were overjoyed to be able to spend time in a place we had dreamed of someday experiencing all together. Out West, the world is spread out. A usual 10 minute drive in Boston is equivalent to an hour drive in Montana. So when Brandon told Chapin the cheapest flight flew into Billings, it seemed no problem. Little did they know it took over eight hours to get to Chris. However, Brandon always made the most out of any moment or opportunity. Atop the Beartooth Mountains, Brandon saw utopia. Forgoing the worry of the long drive, he made them take it in. After parking the car at the peak and taking a short walk away, he led them to one of the most beautiful sceneries they had ever seen--an unimaginable view. Brandon pointed out all the small high elevation ponds and talked about how fun it would be to swim in them. He was in his element. Two photos are attached: one of Chapin and Brandon on top of Beartooth Pass, and one of Brandon solo in his element.
During this time, we had some of our fondest memories together. For three days we camped, hiked and shared in paradise: best friends doing what they love in a dream destination. The most memorable moment was hiking Table Mountain, right across from the Grand Teton. Brandon could talk about anything while hiking. Start him on a topic and he could roll for an hour. Mixing between stories from the past, Harry Potter, how happy he was to be there, or nailing the punch lines of jokes: he has always been a swiss-army knife of the english language. Despite the 14 miles and 4,000 ft of elevation, Brandon kept the group upbeat and moving. Best friends hiking a beautiful mountain. Nothing gets better than that. On top, we all felt a moment of accomplishment and togetherness that will forever be cherished, until we meet on that mountain again. A photo of the three of us with the Grand Teton in the background is attached.
Brandon will always remain with us wherever we go. His kind heart, passion for the outdoors, profound thoughtfulness, and ability to bring joy with a laugh and smile have shown us what it means to be a friend, to make the most of each moment, and to enjoy the simple things for the deepness of their beauty. A fiercely loyal friend, never hesitant to share his love with those around him. We love Brandon, are grateful to have experienced an amazing moment of life by his side, and are blessed to call him our best friend.
