Obituary of Br. James McVeigh, O.S.F.
Brother James McVeigh, OSF passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021. Brother James was born on October 10, 1946 to Francis and Adele McVeigh. He is survived by his brother Wayne McVeigh and his sister Linda McVeigh Latham. Brother James entered the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn and received the religious name of Brother Martin de Porres. After professing his first vows, he received a BA in Sociology and an MA in Religious Education. He taught at St. Francis Xavier and St. Mary Star of the Sea in Brooklyn, as well as St. Francis Prep, Bishop Ford and St. Anthony's High Schools. He was principal for ten years at Our Lady of Hope School in Middle Village. Brother James served as Regional School Supervisor in the Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as Assistant Superintendent for Essex County in the Archdiocese of Newark. Brother James also served as Co-Vicar for Religious in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Viewing for Brother James will take place at Our Lady of Angels Chapel at St. Anthony's HS, 275 Wolf Hill Rd, South Huntington, NY on Monday, February 22 from 3-7pm and on Tuesday, February 23 from 9-11am. Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Elizabeth Church, Melville. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY.
