Obituary of Joy Newton
Viola Joyce "Joy" McDonald Newton - Passed away at her longtime home in Asharoken on April 28, 2021. Born in Brooklyn on February 27, 1923. She and her late husband Lewis moved to Northport in 1954 where they raised seven children. Loving mother of Mary Ann Graziano (Larry), John P. Newton (Debra), Carol P. Newton, Michael D. Newton (Kumhui), James P. Newton (Susan), Robert J. Newton (Karin Stucchio) and the late Thomas H. Newton (Karin Steyer). Adoring grandmother of sixteen and proud great-grandmother of thirteen.
She will be remembered as a tireless volunteer; whether it be St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary, St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Place: Concepts For Narcotics Prevention, or her work as PTA president, Northport Historical Society president, or originating member of the Cow Harbor Day committee, Joy dove into a myriad of community volunteer pursuits.
Joy loved the competitive and social aspects of both the Northport Tennis Club, and the St Philip Neri Bridge Club, where she and Lew made lifetime friends.
Memorial Mass on Monday 5/3 11am at St. Philip Neri Church, Northport. All are welcome. Please observe COVID restrictions.
In memory of Joy's life, the family asks that any charitable donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Northport Historical Society, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, or St.Charles Hospital.
