Obituary of James P. Nolan, Jr.

Nolan, James P. Jr. on July 2, 2021 81 years of age, of East Northport. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Pamela Long Nolan. Loving father of Jemina Keller (Jeff), Michael Nolan (Pam), Patrick Nolan (Lea), Megan Nolan (Sam DeCesare) and Mark Nolan (Nora). Proud Grandpa of Liam, Mara, Gillian, Ellis, Summer, Riley, Caroline, Claire, Ruby, Lila and Olivia. Fond brother of Jeanne Nolan, Thomas Nolan and Peter Nolan (Laure). Uncle Jimmy to many nieces and nephews. Jim moved to the newly constructed family home/funeral home in Northport in 1948 when he was eight years old. He attended St. Philip Neri School for grades 1-8 and graduated from Northport High School in 1958. As a teen, he trained in the first Smoke Eaters program with Northport Fire Department and joined the Department as an adult. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-65 and married Pamela during that time at St. Philip Neri church in Northport. They moved to their home in East Northport where they raised their 5 children. Jim was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years, joined the East Northport Fire Department, coached many youth soccer teams and enjoyed participating in an adult volleyball league. Jim was a second generation funeral director, and co-owner of Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, with his brother Peter for 45 years. In addition to this, Jim saw the importance of being active in Funeral Service Association work. Starting at the Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association Board, he was an active Board member for 20 years, and also worked with the New York State Funeral Directors Association, where he first served as a board member then President from 2002-2003. He was dedicated to making the Funeral Profession better for all! A very talented candid photographer, Jim often hid behind his lens in plain sight. His gift of capturing the most outrageous facial expressions of friends, family and total strangers was something he lovingly shared. Jim's keen eye, quick wit and generous heart will be missed. Reposing Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue Northport Thursday 2-4:30 PM & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass 10 AM Friday, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, East Northport. Interment to follow at Northport Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to your favorite charity in Jim's memory would be appreciated.
