I was deeply saddened to hear about Mary's passing. When she came to Georgia as GEICO’S new MW Regional Vice President (newsletter attached), I was fortunate that she chose me as her Administrative Assistant. Over the course of 8 years working with Mary, I learned so much. She will always be the reason I make decisions the way I do. She taught me valuable ways of problem solving, to trust my own instincts and how to look at the big picture.
I know Mary loved her work and she made a difference everyday. She had a calming presence and if you needed to talk to her, she would listen, her door was open to everyone. Mary was always interested in the goals of others and would make sure you were on the right path to achieve your goals. If it weren't for her I probably would not have continued my education the way I did. Being around Mary made you believe in yourself because she believed in you.
Mary’s kindness was evident through her smile. I remember she would either be walking around the floor at GEICO humming or she would be humming in her office. There will never be another Mary Zarcone. She was one of a kind and I know she made a difference in those many lives around her.
Mary loved her work, but she loved John and her family much more. Because of her deep love for her family she was empathetic toward the family of others. I remember when 9/11 happened, my youngest son was in elementary school which was located by the WR Airforce base. Everything was getting put on lockdown and Mary knew how important it was to me to know he was safe so without hesitation she told me to go make sure he was ok and get him home. Anyone who's reading this that has worked or still works at GEICO, knows how much red tape you need to go through just to leave the building, at least it was that way back then. Mary was a great RVP because she knew how to lead with not only her education, experience and skills, but also with her heart.
My thoughts and prayers go out to John and all of Mary's family and closest friends as they deal with the coming days ahead. I will be praying for your strength, peace and comfort.

Mary was a wonderful and trusted mentor and peer whose judgment and opinions I came to value tremendously over the years I worked for her and with her. Mostly though, Mary became a true friend. Her patience and kindness to all, even when she was juggling a million things, were traits I always admired, and she made a true difference in the lives and careers of so many. Mary was a good and true friend to me and my family, and she will be forever missed.

Mary was my manager at Geico back in the late 80s early 90s. She was always happy friendly and helpful.. She had a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile and she did not act like the typical “bossr” She will be missed. She left a lasting impact on any of us who had worked for her in the claims department

I had the pleasure of working with Mary from 2003 until her retirement in 2013. Mary was a compassionate leader/mentor who always had the best interests of her associates at heart. She made many of us at GEICO not just better at our careers but better people. I pray for peace and comfort for John and her family during the coming days.

I first met Mary as a new manager in a manager/director conference around 2000. She was a director and was a member of my break out team. I had to present our discussions and I remember her encouragement so well. Later, she came to Macon and was soon our RVP. She never stopped teaching and encouraging. She was such a people person even as a RVP with high expectations....one of the very best! My heart is broken. Prayers for John and the rest of the family!

Mary was a Mentor to me as well as one of my favorite people at GEICO. She sincerely cared about the success of our company, but also about the associates that reported to her. My wife and I really hate to hear about this.

Mary was a very kind and smart encouraging person to us all no matter what level of management you were in at GEICO. I always liked her style, friendliness and words of wisdom. I am was very sad to see this announcement. Praying for all of her family during this time.
