Obituary of Joan Arline Lang
Joan Arline Purcell Lang

Joan Arline Purcell Lang, aged 82, of Fort Myers Beach, FL passed away September 23rd while in hospice. Joan was born February 28, 1939 in Baldwin, NY. She graduated Baldwin High School in 1956 and attended St. John's University. One of Joan's first jobs was at Socony Mobil Oil of NY, NY. She then went on to work as an administrative assistant at Reeves Instrument Corporation of Garden City, NY. On September 23, 1960, Joan had her first date with Arthur J. Lang after meeting at a dance hosted by the Inter-Parish Club of Nassau. A little over two years later, on February, 16, 1963, at St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church in Baldwin, Joan married Arthur, the love of her life. Married life brought them five children and to Northport, NY, to raise their family. Joan continued her career as a Community Organization Worker for the Town of Huntington in the 1980's and early '90's. Joan and Arthur retired to Fort Myers Beach, FL in 1998 where Joan was actively involved in her church, volunteering as a eucharistic minister. She loved traveling with her husband, gardening, and she was a prize-winning quilter.
Joan is survived by her adoring husband of 58 years, Arthur J. Lang, of Ft Myers Beach, FL. She is also survived by their five children: Daniel Lang (Robyn) of Huntington, NY, Jeanne Lang Simuro (Frank) of Alexandria, VA, Thomas Lang (Laura) of Alexandria, VA, James Lang (Heather) of Selden, NY, and Jennifer Lang of New Orleans, LA. Joan was a loving 'Grammy' to her eight grandchildren: Brittany Locrotondo, Matthew Lang, Anthony Simuro, Sofia Lang, Alex Simuro, Joseph Lang, Carter Lang, and Amber Lang. Joan is also survived by her sister Jeanne Purcell Lotito (Frank) of Sound Beach, NY, and was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Rosalie Purcell of Baldwin, NY.
