Obituary of Eleanor E. McKenna

Eleanor E. McKenna, 100, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 19, 2021. Born on March 2, 1921, to George and Helen Ryan of Queens, Eleanor witnessed the great depression, WWII, two sons in the Vietnam War, men landing on the moon during her lifetime, and felt the greatest invention was the vacuum cleaner. Eleanor was an avid reader that loved mysteries especially Tom Clancy novels, sewing, but most of all spending time with her family. She accomplished most anything she set her mind to including graduating Magna Cum Laude from Hofstra University and earning her CPA in her fifties, becoming an exceptional quilter making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Eleanor enjoyed the beach, sewing, golfing and the Adirondack mountains where the family went camping each summer. Eleanor was married 57 years to her husband Bill and had seven children Mary Ellen (deceased), Jim, Bill, Kevin, Susan, Michael, and John, 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten by her loving family and friends. Reposing Monday 3-7PM, Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue Northport. Funeral Mass Tuesday 10AM, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Woodbury. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinson's Foundation, in Eleanor's memory would be appreciated.
