Obituary of Joan D. Gehrke
Joan D. Gehrke
May 8th, 1934 - December 4th, 2021
It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our mother and family matriarch, Joan Gehrke. She passed peacefully at home with family. In a testament to her will and fortitude, she fought with dignity, grit and grace for over two years since her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.
A Northport resident for nearly 60 years, Joan was passionate about preserving the unique, historic beauty of Northport. She was a founding member of the Northport Village Residents Association, and was active in both the Northport Historical Society and the Northport Village Zoning Board.
Joan became an award-winning realtor, retiring only recently. She touched the lives of numerous Northport families and has frequently been referred to as "an Icon" in the local real estate community.
Joan was known for her integrity, generosity and kindness. Whether it was standing up for an injustice, lending an ear or even just holding a hand, if she could ease someone's burden she would gladly do so.
Family and friends were everything to Joan. The door was always open - all were welcome to her home in Northport and her camp in Vermont. Everyone loved to spend time with her, and we all have wonderful "Noni" stories to tell.
Joan was a loving mother to Lisa (Michael) Hoffmann, Lynn (Keith) Caruso, Tom Gehrke, Ellen (Peter) Morrissey.
Devoted Noni to grandchildren Jesse, Tim, Sarah, Melissa, Andrew, Casey, Shane, Elizabeth and Coletta and great grandchildren Domenica, Gray, Maxwell, Logan, Kellan, Olivia, Ada and Amber.
Beloved sister to Anthony (Linda) Curto.
Rest in peace Mom. We will miss you terribly.
