I first lost Uncle Milton and, now, Uncle Donald. I had no idea either of you were sick, no one told me until after the fact. The memories I have of Uncle Donald are as clear as ever. I spent many summers with him and Oma in Greenlawn as a child; to this day, I recall how proud I was that he let me drive the tractor-mower to mow the back-40! Allthewhile I had the tune to "Green Acres" in my head! Uncle Donald had a small plot of corn he'd grow on the slope during the season, sweet as could be. Uncle Donald and Milton would often sing tunes from various Broadway shows like "Shenandoah" or "Man of La Mancha"; to this day, I know the lyrics of "The Impossible Dream" via Uncle Donald and how he and his brother Milton sang it.
I sing it just as well these days, thanks to the best uncles I've ever had (despite the fact I have not seen either for, well, let's just say that time passes). RIP, Uncle Dlanod * / some of you might get the reference which Unc'D would have guffawed at!
