Obituary of John C. Griffin
John C. Griffin, 93, passed away April 14 at his Florida residence. Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 4, 1929 to the late Charles and Elizabeth (née Gilmartin) Griffin. As a young man Jack met the love of his life, Ruth DeLap, in Brooklyn, NY, where they were married. Soon after, they moved to Northport, NY and raised five loving children.
Upon his return to the states from serving his country as a US Army Sergeant in the Korean War, he became a proud New York City Fireman. Jack received numerous awards for bravery and valor and retired in 1986 as a Battalion Chief.
Jack was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him then anything else in the world. He was exceedingly proud of his children and grandchildren and always supported them in any endeavor they chose.
Anyone who knew Jack knew he was the most loving husband, father and Papa a family could ask for. Jack is survived by his sons John Griffin (MaryRose) and Rob Griffin (Barbara) and his daughters Claudia Deptula (Cliff), Marie McOlvin (Tom) and Joan Riley (Bill). Jack was also a beloved Grandfather of nine with two great grandchildren.
