I just learned of Phil's passing and am deeply saddened by the news, as are so many others who knew Phil. I first started working with Phil in Jim Lack's state Senate office back in 1979 or 1980. I left Long Island in 1987, but we always kept in touch, if only by a note on a Christmas card every year. When Phil became ill, we started emailing every few months or so. I will miss those correspondences very much. Those who knew Phil knew what a great writer he was. At a job I held after I left LI, I wrote something and re-read what I had just written. I thought to myself "That is a Phil Ingerman sentence. I know where that came from." That's the kind of influence he had on my own writing. I will miss our discussions about life, relationships and politics. I only wish we had shared more of them over the years. I hope that the universe allows me to keep channeling Phil's spirit.

Dear Grandpa Phil, we love you forever and miss you. Among other times, I will think of you every time I play poker, make blueberry pancakes or take the LIRR :). I always thought we’d have more time together. Your love and devotion to grandma is inspiring. Rest in Peace, your memory and incredible laugh live on in us.

I am saddened by this news of Philip's recent passing. It was my pleasure to have gotten to know him, first through his efforts with the Northport Historical Society, and later as we both participated in the Northport Village Police Review Committee. It was while serving closely with him on this Police Committee that I came to realize how brilliant and intelligent he was, and how he could calmly approach every difficult situation with respect for each differing opinion and perspective. He was a unique gentleman for his skill for encouraging agreement in these divisive times. I also admired him for his unfailing devotion to Joyce until her own fairly recent passing. I am sure that their family are deeply missing both of them. I am sure these sentiments are also being felt by the many groups and organizations which Phil supported. To all who knew and loved Philip, I wish to extend my deepest condolences. Regards, Joe Schramm
