Evelyn has been a wonderful addition to my life, first as an acquaintance, then as an employee, later as a dear friend and for the past 22 years - as a Northport neighbor. She brought fun and energy with her. Her determination and willingness to learn new things gave me confidence to do the same. I am so grateful for all the crazy adventures, dinners, creative projects, Trivial Pursuit games and conversations we have shared between us, as well as with her amazing family. How lucky Steve and I have been to have had Evelyn in our world? Thank you for all of the great memories, Evelyn. We miss you, already. Love, Joe

Evelyn was the best neighbor on Michigan Avenue. It was great growing up with all the Shelley family. We had some good times. Evelyn was the youngest of the mothers and the “coolest.” She was always so welcoming and so much fun. It seems like just yesterday. All the kids (now older adults) in my family only ever make Evelyn’s recipe for broccoli casserole. No other recipe even comes close. She was a great cook and a welcoming entertainer. My memory’s go way back. Now living in Virginia, for the past many years prevented me seeing her very often but she always sent me one of the first Christmas cards of the season. I will miss that. I will miss her, as everyone who knew her will. My heart and hugs are with the family. Love you always, Michele Banalett❤️☮️♥️

We will remember Evelyn as a great friend and neighbor. She was a woman of exceptional energy, an avid golfer, great canasta player, and dedicated officer of the Woodbine Harbor Homeowners Association for many years. She is no longer with us but will live on in fond memories. Rest in peace, Evelyn, we will miss you. Heartfelt condolences to all family members. Sincerely, Brian and Roseanna Nixon

The first time I met Evelyn was on the tennis court at Huntington tennis club. We became partners on the court & friends off the court. She invited me to learn to play canasta with a few of her other friends & I became one of the “card ladies “ referred to in her obituary. I loved the nights the 4 of us played cards & during those nights learned also how much she cherished her family- she loved each & every one of you & was so proud of all of you. I’m grateful to have had the privilege of being in her world. Her Illness unfortunately got the best of her & I know she fought it hard. The Shelley family & all who knew her will mourn her loss. RIP Maureen
