I’ve heard from my mom (om tiu sister) that tante yoyo has strong will and desire to start new life and yet she made it. Unfortunately, we were not present in the time of needs, and she be found two days after. Thanks to Doctor and Nurse of Suffolks who take care of her during comma.. eventhough we have tried our best but everyone has its own fate.
This opportunity i will lit the candle so that she may rest in peace and in god’s rest.

Johanah was a special and unique individual. Her smile and giggle would light up a room!
She was a caring and warm friend who was incredibly strong and independent.

Tante Yoyo will always have a special place in my heart. In my early years whenever visiting Tegal she would welcome me with open arms to play with Yayang, Elise too. Tante Yoyo was strong-willed, driven, determined in addition to her kind heart, generosity, and full of energy. She was truly a rare gem back in those days in the small town of Tegal.
May Tante Yoyo rest in peace, and my deepest sympathies to Yayang, Elise, Steve and their families.

In my eyes, Oma Yoyo beat to her own drum. She was courageous and adventurous reference for me. She was unafraid of being different than others, and I remember her as a traveler. While our time together was brief, I'll miss her presence in this world.

My name is Stephen, and I am a librarian at the Northport-East Northport Public Library. I have had the pleasure of knowing Johanah for years, first as a patron, and when she moved, a welcome friend who needed a little bit of help with her laptop. She was always so kind and sweet. She seemed to radiate joy wherever she went, and I always looked forward to sitting down with her. Here appreciation was genuine, but I think I was the one who benefitted most from our meetings. She had a spark, and I will truly miss our time together.

Our mother is a strong-willed, fierce, and in many ways, incredible person. At the age of 43y, she traveled halfway across the world to start over. She arrived in America, a country she loved, and experienced a newfound freedom she never had while married to my father. A pragmatist, she abandoned her previous training as a pharmacist and became a housekeeper to provide a better future for her children, a job she kept for the rest of her life. Despite her meager earnings, she funded my university education. She maintained a frugal lifestyle, never discarding things but rather repurposing them. We embarked on many adventures together, visiting numerous landmarks in Manhattan and elsewhere in the US, watching several musicals, traveling around always by buses, subways, or on foot. She taught us so much about resilience, how to be thick-skinned, and not to give up easily. Our last adventure, navigating through her stroke, was the most challenging. As her light dimmed, and all her strength drained from her, we saw the end of an extraordinary life, of the giant whose shoulder we stand on to see so far a distance. Thank you, Mom, for all you've given us. Rest in peace, we love you lots.

I am so saddened to hear of Johanah’s passing. My family and I always enjoyed speaking with her about different foods and American politics. Her passion about many of the national issues was inspiring, as were her efforts and motivation to earn American citizenship. My youngest son always got a kick out of the fact that she called him “little one” even as he grew taller than all of us. Her smile and presence all around Northport will be missed.
