Obituary of Roy Alfred Erlandson

Roy Alfred Erlandson of Northport passed away on May 14, 2024, at the age of 87. Roy was a first generation American born in Brooklyn into a hard working Swedish and Norwegian immigrant family. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and spent his adult life in Northport, NY. Roy had a successful career as an engineer at Grumman Aerospace Corp, contributing to significant projects such as the Lunar Module, F-14, and Space Shuttle. An avid outdoorsman, Roy enjoyed hiking, camping, and canoeing. He was a leader in Boy Scout Troop 474, hiked a considerable portion of the Appalachian Trail, and ran every Cow Harbor 10k Race from 1977 to 2018 when he was 81 years old. Roy was an active member of his local church and frequently participated in mission trips across the country. Known for his big smile, he was a great neighbor and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the beloved husband of Wendy, the loving father of Todd (Leigh), Daniel (Christine), and Jennifer Ayers (Dr. Michael), and cherished grandfather of Jake, Frances, Ian, Matthew, Peter (Ashley), Lindsay, and Sarah. He was also the dear brother of the late Nancy Orr. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00 am at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church (4 Trescott Path, Fort Salonga, NY 11768).
