Obituary of Richard P. Condon

Richard Philip Condon, 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 9, 2024, in Stamford, CT. Born on June 27, 1937, in the Bronx, NY, Richard lived a life full of adventure, humor, and love. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. A valued member of the Northport, NY community, he later made homes in Southold, NY, and Naples, FL.

Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maureen Condon, whom he married on July 19, 1958. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage filled with laughter, travel, and unforgettable memories. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael Condon, and his sister, Marianne Condon Marquis.

He is survived by his children, Christine Condon Field and Richard Condon; his brother, Edward "Eddy" Condon Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Rosemarie (Rosie) Mueller-Condon; his son-in-law, Kevin Field; and his grandchildren, Brent Steinberg, Dylan Steinberg, and Haley Field.

Richard served his country proudly in the United States Navy and went on to dedicate 17 years of service as an officer in the New York Police Department. After his service to country and community, he became the proprietor of two bustling restaurants: the Main Street Cafe in Northport, NY, and The Metropolitan Improvement Company in Lower Manhattan. Richard led an impressively active life, running marathons, including the New York City and Boston Marathons. He enjoyed sailing and boating (earning him the endearing nickname "Papaboat" from his grandchildren), as well as biking, skiing, and golfing, despite his seemingly frustrating relationship with the sport. He traveled far and wide with his wife and best friend, Maureen, by his side.

Richard’s love for life was evident in his adventurous spirit and mischievous sense of humor. Known as a serial prankster, his antics often left family and friends laughing—sometimes despite themselves. Those who knew him best likely have many funny stories to tell.

Above all, Richard was a man of integrity, heart, and faith whose memory will always be cherished. He is now reunited with his beloved Maureen, dancing once again in heaven.

Services will be held at Nolan Funeral Home, Inc. in Northport, NY, on October 14th at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard’s remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers.
