Douglas Caracappa Dec.21 1954 to Oct 07, 2014 Douglas resided in East Northport and attended John H. Glenn H.S.; he particapated in track team sports there. He graduated from Bates College in Maine, and majored in Biology. After college he worked for the Federal Government, United States Geological Survey, as a water Quality field person, both in Maine and Long Island. He loved nature and the out of doors and a favorite pastime was to go on a Long Island fishing party boat! Douglas is survived by his only sibling, his beloved sister Denise Caracappa, his many caring friends as well as his many cousins, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Dorothy Caracappa. He was an avid member of the Huntington Audubon Society and enjoyed attending the lectures on various topics about birds, as well as the birding field trips. In addition he found much enjoyment and peace while on camping trips and hikes with his sister Denise. The most exciting and memorable trip they took together was a few years ago to Grand Canyon and Sedonna, Arizona. He also enjoyed greatly the many intersting excursions he took with his sister, from various community events around Long Island to Manhattan Broadway and Orchestra shows. Douglas was a most gentle person and was a kind and loving caregiver to his late mother, Dorothy Caracappa. Most important to Douglas was his spiritual life (he read the Bible and prayed daily) and he was a most active member of the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle Church in Smithtown, Long Island. He enjoyed the Monday men's fellowship meetings. Despite his modest means, Douglas made many charitable contributions to many faith based causes to help those less fortunate. Douglas lived life simply, always spoke kindly and loved unconditionally; he was a true believer of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Douglas will be interred at Genola Rural Cemetery in Family plot there; location 140 Laurel Road, East Northport, NY 11731 on Sat Oct. 11 at 12 noon with his family, close friends and neighbors. Father Vien of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, who knew Douglas and his mom will preside with meaningful prayers at the burial. Donations to Family Service League, C/O Denise Caracappa, 95 Biltmore Avenue, Oakdale, New York 11769, in his memory would be appreciated. A memorial service celebrating his life will take place within next few months; date and location to be announced. Also, a tree in his memory will be planted on the grounds of family service league, Bay Shore; date and location to be announced.
