Obituary of Alice L. Jaeger
Alice L. Jaeger (nee Long), a long-time resident of Flushing, Queens and a lifelong resident of New York City, died Sunday the 20th of January 2013 at New York Hospital - Queens at the age of 98years.
Born in 1914 in Manhattan, N.Y., Alice was one of 12 children born to Lillian and John Long. She was a career woman who was ahead of her time. Alice
worked as a NY Telephone operator and retired as a department manger in 1976. During WWII she was a payroll supervisor at a New York City war plant. Alice is predeceased by her husband Edwin Jaeger, a bank officer with JP Morgan & Co., and her beloved sister Muriel Garvin and brother-in Vincent W. Garvin.
Alice was very proud of her New York City heritage dating back to the founding of the United States. Alice's grandfather, James G. Long, served with the 51st NY Infantry during the Civil War.
Alice was a very independent, strong willed woman who remained in her own home until her death. She was a very generous person who loved her family and her dogs. She is survived by her nieces, Allison Garvin-Cullen and Nancy Eagan, her great nieces Elizabeth and Christine and great nephew James, and her brother Arthur Long.
The Nolan & Taylor - Howe Funeral Home located at 5 Laurel Road, Northport, NY has been entrusted with arrangements. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday January 24, 2013 with services to follow. Interment will be at Lutheran Cemetery in New York City.
