Obituary of Lester Walter Moulder

Moulder, Lester Walter, 78, died peacefully at Huntington Hospital in Huntington, NY on March 17, 2017 after many battles with increasing health issues. This was his last battle as he faded away to be with the love of his life, his beloved late wife Jackie. He always said, "Old soliders never die, they just fade away." Lester, formerly of Centerport and Greenlawn, NY spent the last years of his life in Thornton NH living with his wife in their log cabin. Upon her passing he went between his son's home and then back down to Long Island to be close to his beloved late wife and family. He was the loving father of Allen B., who he leaves behind along with Allen's wife, Julie. He was the adoring "Pop" of Ethan, "that's my boy", Meghan, "my little Jackie", and Ryan, "little Pop". He was the fond brother of Kathleen A. Sammis along with her husband Mel, Lee Ann Moulder-Marino along with her husband Michael Marino and the late Arthur H. Moulder. He leaves behind many loving family members and his final caretaker, Bryan B., who was a great friend. Lester was born in Brooklyn on January 23, 1939 to Arthur and Muriel Moulder. He started working at age 13 for Viette Nurseries. In 1957 he joined and served in the Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1963. After he worked for Republic Aviation doing airplane maintenance. Shortly thereafter he worked for the Suffolk County Medical Examiners office and after a brief stint with Greenlawn Water District went back into the nursery business. He loved plants and worked for Elwood Nurseries as well as growing his own field. He loved to set up Christmas display themes. He worked with various Long Island nurseries selling to larger retailers like Kemper Nurseries. He would only grow quality plants. Allen, as a kid, could be seen alongside his dad on a tractor. Later he went back to Greenlawn Water District in 1975 until his retirement at the end of 2000. In 1971 Lester married the love of his life at Centerport United Methodist Church in Centerport, NY. A year later they had their son, Allen B. In 1978 Lester bought his own house. Lester and Jackie had many special memories together. They went to countless theatre shows at Westbury Music theatre as part of the inner circle club. In 1996 Lester embarked on a special family cruise to Bermuda minus Allen who just got out of the USCG. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with his family. In 2004 Lester and Jackie went along with Allen and Julie's family on a cross country trip on Amtrak to CA. After retirement Lester and Jackie found their special vacation place, The Mohegan Sun. They were frequent visitors enjoying shows, gambling, get-aways, and the stop back home to see the grandkids and family. Lester had a personality that went along with his bright blue eyes and strong body. Anyone that knew Lester knew his many stories. He had a heart of gold, loved country music, liked the simple things in life and could always be seen watching FOX News. Anyone that ever met Lester instantly took an affinity to him. He befriended everyone. His grandkids remember Pop doing a jig each time they left him and then tears streaming down his face upon each hello and good-bye. His family meant the world to him.
