Obituary of Richard J. Borstelmann

Richard Borstelmann born in New York City on May 14, 1929.

He was the son of Frederic Borstelmann and Frances Leonard. He grew up in the Bronx attending Cardinal Hayes High School before attending and graduating from Iona College in 1951. He married Joan Burns in September 1955 and they lived in Bronx, NY prior to moving to Centerport, NY, where he has lived for the last 56 years.

Richard served in the United States Navy starting his military career in high school as part of the Sea Cadets. He received a commission and reported in 1952 and served in active duty during the Korean War. Retiring as Lt Commander United States Navy Reserve.

Richard has worked as a physicist and engineer throughout his career. He worked in the semi conductor industry at Hugh's Aircraft, Combustion Engineering, Synvania electric, eventually starting his own company, U.C.E in Norwalk Conn. where he was a pioneer in liquid crystal display technology.

Richard was an active member and volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R. C. Church in Centerport, NY, since its inception. 

Richard was the loving father to five children, Joe, Mark, Rose (Larry), Greg and Karen (Joe), eleven grandchildren , Pete (Marie), Melissa (Mike), Laurie, Gregory, Sarah, Brian, Melinda, Amanda, Robyn, Christopher and Matthew. 
He was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren Jane, Margot, Freddy, Clara Mae, Mark and Megan. 
Richard loved to call and check in on everyone, and never failed to ask "is there anything I can do for you?"
It is with sadness in our hearts that we say goodbye with a longing to hear  "be of good cheer, take care"
