Obituary of Thomas D'Alessandro
D'ALESSANDRO - Thomas, MD, of Northport, on November 5, 2018, 60 years of age. Beloved husband of Pamela. Loving father of Alexa and John. Cherished son of Marie and the late John. Dear brother of Antoinette Terman and John D'Alessandro, MD and his wife JoAnn. Fond son in-law of Barbara Doncaster and the late Henry and fond brother in-law of Henry Doncaster, Jr. (Cynthia), Cheryl Feratovic (Sayo), and Holli Doncaster (Jason). Also loved by his nieces and nephews.
Tom was the Section Chief of Nuclear Medicine at the Northport VA and specialized in Nuclear Cardiology. He served as a mentor and lead instructor to students in the Nuclear Medicine Technologist program and residents. Tom was an Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University Hospital and developed many friendships with people in the medical community. Before pursuing his medical degree in the Caribbean, Tom was an alumni of Boston University where he met his lovely wife, Pam. An avid lover of sports, Tom spent many nights watching and attending sporting events with his children, specifically Islander hockey games when the family had season tickets. In the last year, he found great joy in organizing group events at Yankee Stadium. He followed college sports and admired the comradery and innocence of them. He was an athlete in high school and supported his children’s participation heavily in soccer, tennis and lacrosse. Tom had a passion for small engine repair, cars, music, and food. He was an active member of the St. Anthony’s High School Father’s Guild and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Tom’s network of diverse friendships and relationships was reflected in his personal interests. And with that, he, touched the lives of so many people in so many ways. In the last months, he found solitude at his home in the Berkshires immersed in the restoration of his hillside barn. He lived a big life and lived it in this way until the last day of his battle with this cruel disease.
Tom was selfless, and giving was always more important than receiving. It was important for him to instill those values in his children and guide them to always be humble and kind.
