Obituary of Leona T. Ceglia
CEGLIA, LEONA- (nee Avino) wife of the late Edward Ceglia, daughter of the late James and Ruby Avino, passed suddenly on Wednesday, November 23 rd 2022. Born and raised in Huntington, Leona followed her father as an employee at Grumman Corp. She and her late husband, Eddie, purchased their home in Greenlawn where Leona resided until her passing. Their Greenlawn property was the site of Eddie’s landscaping and nursery business known as Green Fields Landscaping and Long Acre’s Nursery. For many years, Eddie worked the business, and Leona managed it.
Leona loved nature—she loved her garden where she grew flowers, vegetables and nursed all kinds of plants. She could often be seen outside in the garden and the nursery wearing her rubber boots! In addition to the many shrubs, trees and plants, there were always animals at the Ceglia property; there were geese, ducks, cats and dogs that would greet any visitor. Her dog Coco, who passed only a year ago, was her last, and favorite.
A collector of all kinds of pottery and glassware, Leona loved going to yard sales, purchasing and saving vintage items she loved. She was also a lover of books. An avid reader, Leona later enjoyed many years of work at the Greenlawn Library and retired from that job in 2014.
Leona leaves behind her devoted companion, Christian DeMaio, her sister, Barbara Albanos, and her niece and nephew, John Peter, and Zoe, along with her many life-long friends who were like family to her.
Reposing Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Thursday 10 AM, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Centerport. Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery Huntington. In Lieu of flowers donations in Leona's memory to VNS Hospice of Suffolk, 505 Main Street, Northport, would be appreciated and remembered.
